The Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival

The Dorothy Sutton Preliminary auditions will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at West Chester University from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  In order to enroll students, teachers must pay all local, state, and national dues by one week prior to registering students. Teachers may refer to the PMTA website for more details and guidelines.

  • Students are required to play two compositions. No arranged music is permitted. Music for the elementary level should be contrasting in style. Intermediate and advanced levels should be from two different periods of music history. Performance time may not exceed fifteen minutes. Pieces must be at least 16 measures long without repeats.
  • All students are required to take a theory exam by 4:30 PM on the day of the audition. Theory test information is located on the PMTA website. More detailed theory test information is found here.
  • Ensemble music will also be screened at the local level. There are no repertoire requirements for ensemble music. 

To enter students in the local preliminary auditions

Registration
  • Online registration is now REQUIRED, and we will no longer accept checks and paper forms. Registration is available under the Teachers Only tab, under Registration for Events.
  • The website password will be sent via email blast on August 31st

  • Registration for the DSPF auditions is open September 1st to 16th at midnight

  • Solo $19.00
  • Duet $22.00
  • Trio $28.00
  • Quartet $33.00

Results and State Level
  • Local auditions results will indicate if the student may proceed to the state level as a participant in a showcase recital where he/she will receive a gold medal. The Dorothy Sutton Showcase Recital will be held Saturday, November 03, 2018 at Temple University.
  • Registration for the DSPF auditions is open September 1st to 16th

Important Information for Teachers

All teachers entering students at the local preliminary level are expected to assist on the day of the audition. We would appreciate any additional help from your students’ parents if at all possible. If you are unable to help for the entire day, you must find a substitute.  

Teachers must pick up their students’ results, medals and theory certificates at the end of the day on September 30, 2018.

Local audition results will indicate if the student may proceed to the state level as a participant in a showcase recital where he/she will receive a gold medal. The Dorothy Sutton Showcase Recital will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Temple University.

Registration
  • Registration for the showcase recital is only available online. A link to the registration page will be under the Teachers Only tab, under Registration for Events.
  • See your latest email blast for website password
  • Registration must be completed by each individual teacher for their eligible students. Please check the PMTA website for more info. 
  • Online registration will begin on October 1, 2018 and end at 3:00 PM EST, Monday, October 15, 2018.

  • $20.00 per ensemble

The Concerto and Ensemble festival is a state event. Please direct all questions and fees to Theresa Smith, ssmith2124@aol.com.
