The Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival
COVID-19 UPDATE: West Chester University is not holding any outside events in their fall semester, therefore the Dorothy Sutton Preliminary Auditions will take place online. All performances and theory exams must be submitted by Saturday, October 3, 2020 by 12:00PM.
Registration Deadline is Monday, Sept 21, 2020
As before, students are required to play two compositions, contrasting in style and/or of different periods in music history. Students are also required to take a theory exam. However, levels 6 and above will be optional for students who previously have scored 85% or higher on the level 5 test. The performances will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube as an “unlisted” video. This would allow the video to only be watched using the link (rather than it being searchable publicly). The theory exam will be sent to participating students as a PDF file. They will need to print the exam, complete it, and scan the completed exam. Additionally, the sheet music must be scanned as a PDF file. The video performances, sheet music will be submitted through an online form by each student or their parent, which can then be forwarded to the judges and exam graders.
With this adjusted format, the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival is even more accessible than usual, so we highly encourage your participation especially now!
Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility.

Although we are all working through a difficult time, it is very important to encourage our students to continue participating in music performances and festivals, even if it has to be through online methods. It provides much needed excitement and motivation towards their music studies!
If you have any questions about anything in regards to the local preliminary auditions, please do not hesitate to reach out to James Anemone at [email protected].
If you have any questions about the state showcase recital, or the concerto and ensemble festival, please direct all questions to Jonathan Flowers at [email protected].
